The London Riots

Problably the best summing up of the London riots I've read so far. This has nothing to do with ideology or any of the involved being advocates of social change. Rather it's old-fashioned theft and thuggery, reflecting the material desires of the participants. And after all, the Premier League starts this weekend, so there probably are quite a few people who'd like to have a 52 inch plasma tv and not willing to pay for it (or work to get money to pay for it). To have some Nike sneakers to go with the rest of the stolen goods only makes sense, so that you can pretend to emulate your sporting heroes on the screen. And now, maybe the media and Ken Livingstone can take a chill pill. The man formerly known as Red Ken is truly becoming ridiculous.

Indiske outlaws

Ifølge denne featuren ble enkelte av Indias mer frittlevende stammer kriminalisert som en følge av Storbritannias kolonisering av landet. Som det sies om de britiske kolonialisatorene i teksten:

«Imbued with a bureaucratic aversion to nomadism and a Victorian relish for the Hindu caste system, they adjudged many Indian tribesmen, Pardhis included, to be preordained crooks.»

Fra DNA til datalagring

Britisk politi innrømmer at DNA-prøver ikke fører til spesielt mange domfellelser. Nok et godt eksempel på hvorfor vi ikke bør la staten ha for mye informasjon om oss. Også noe norske politikere bør merke seg før de vedtar EUs direktiv til datalagring.
